Overview
Each licence unlocks the full Enterprise Mobility + Security E5 service set for one user. It covers Microsoft Entra ID (P1 and P2) for identity and access management, Microsoft Intune for device and app management, Microsoft Purview Information Protection for classifying and safeguarding data, Microsoft Defender for Cloud Apps for cloud-app visibility, and Microsoft Defender for Identity for detecting identity-based threats.
On top of the E3 capabilities, the E5 tier adds the advanced identity tools: Microsoft Entra ID Protection for risk-based sign-in policies and Privileged Identity Management for controlling and auditing admin access. These help your security team enforce Conditional Access, multifactor authentication, and least-privilege admin rights across the organisation.
Everything runs as a cloud service, so there is nothing to install on a server. You assign a licence to each user in the Microsoft 365 admin centre, then set up the services from the Microsoft Entra, Intune, and Defender portals.

Activation
After purchase, you receive an order confirmation by email with your subscription details and setup guidance.
Sign in to the Microsoft 365 admin centre with your work or school account. The Enterprise Mobility + Security E5 subscription appears under your billing and licences.
Go to Users, then Active users, select each person, open Licenses and apps, tick Enterprise Mobility + Security E5, and save.
Set up policies from the Microsoft Entra, Intune, and Defender portals to switch on identity protection, device management, and cloud-app security for your team.
