Overview
Enterprise Mobility + Security E3 brings three of Microsoft's cloud services together in a single licence: Microsoft Entra ID P1 for identity and access, Microsoft Intune for device and app management, and Azure Information Protection P1 for classifying and encrypting data. Rather than buying each service on its own, you cover all three per user.
Entra ID P1 handles how people sign in, with single sign-on, multi-factor authentication and conditional access rules that decide who reaches what. Intune enrols and secures Windows, macOS, iOS/iPadOS and Android devices from one console, pushing policies and apps to company and personal hardware. Azure Information Protection P1 applies labels and encryption to documents and email so files stay controlled wherever they are shared.
This is a subscription, not a one-time purchase. A licence is assigned to each user in the Microsoft 365 admin centre, and coverage runs for the committed term and then expires — it does not auto-renew. There is no separate product to install for the licence itself; the services activate for each user once assigned.

Under Billing and Licences, assign an E3 licence to each user who needs identity, device management or information protection.
Assigned users sign in with their work account, and Entra ID, Intune and Information Protection become available to them.

Yes. Every licence is a genuine Microsoft product, supplied through the authorized Microsoft CSP channel, with activation support if you ever need it.
